Hot Topic 7 - How to beat a writing task?

Hello again!

I guess that most of you have finished your exam right? How was it? Is there any hot things to share about it here? ;;)
I have finished mine also. Among all the subject, I was most satisfied with my writing test ^^ because I tried my best for that and earned the score I wanted. :D

So, the topic I would like to raise today is:

- Do you like writing skill or not?
- Contribute some of your most effective way of sharpening your writing skill.
- What do you think is the most important thing to focus on when doing a writing task in general? (do you focus more on building ideas, or do you focus on varifying your structure?...)

You can learn a lot from others' ideas here!!!

Hi,

My final test was not good . Listening and Reading, too much trouble with them. I have to improve these skills in the 3rd semester. Try more.

And about this topic, I think you should give more questions to make your topic more clear. Because, personally, I always write what I like, only what I like, in order to improve my writing skill in spite of doing writing tasks. Truly, I always meet deadlines for doing writing tasks. Some questions for two issues above needed.

Some tasks are good, and I like them a lot. Read the titles and the suggestions, I have some ideas immediately. However, some are not interesting such as letters, describe places. Besides, these lessons had only few examples and they were not interesting enough. If we have more examples on each lesson, we will have more inspirations, I mean.

The two last questions of yours are so wonderful. I will give you my opinions later.

_Writing all what you like?
_Finding inspirations in doing writing tasks?
_Both?
_...?

Grammar, Vocabularies, Structure... are the same problems.

It seems that not many people are either interested in writing skill or stucked in finding a solution to boost it. hmm....

As for me, I center most in ideas when producing a writing. Not only did I try to give clear ideas but I also think of creative ones to write down. I tried to make my writing different from other and still be persuasive. That's my key to make a good writing as for me.

I really love writing but my writing is horrible. My biggest problem is that I get lost among my plentiful ideas and my thinging and personal arguments sound non-native. Of course, we can never expect a highly native-like tone in a writing of a non-native language user, but someitmes I really sound awkward in my end-of-term exams. Disappointed sometimes.
About the teaching of writing in our university, I think that it's not effective enough. Sorry to say but I find it really ridiculous, fro example, to ask students to write about such overgeneral and broad sort of topics as: "environment" or "climate change" (that's what I had for my 5th and 6th semesters actually). In fact, it's OK to write about these two topic at home, but should it be put there in an end-of-term tests without any supplementary related information? I would say no. Even in TOEFL, before you write any topic, test-designer always prepares you with at least some pieces of info about what you are going to write. This way makes sure that there would be no unlucky writers who have good language skills but unfortuantely lack relevant knowledge about the topic discussed. It's fairer, right?
So I think that for such a general topic of writing, teachers of HULIS should sopportively provide students with sufficient body of knowledge, so that the result of writing test is more reliant and student would never have to complain about such a thing.
Of course, it's much more wonderful if students are asked to give their own opinion on certain issues by writing instead of presenting elsewhere knowledge about them. In this way, teachers can check and determine whether student's writing command is good or not. Let student be creative even at exams so that teachers can give the right judgements on students' writing skills.
To me, "how" is more important than "what". ^^ And that's certainly true in writing.

I don't like writing much. The reason is that I don't have any ideas about the topic. And I don't know how to improve my piece of writing. Teachers' comments don't help much.
