HOT TOPIC 6

Hi guys!!

This is a very controversial topic raised by Nguyen Thanh Nhan:

In HULIS and many universities like FTU, HANU, there are lots of students keep thinking that it is not necessary to get good marks at school but pass only. The important thing is the skills they will gain when doing some extra curriculum activities that will be considered by the employers. As a result, their GPA at school is not high. However, the others believe that it is vitally important to get good marks, which will prove that they are good students and good future employees. Therefore, in stead of participating social activities, they try their best to learn and get good marks.

As you are a HULIS student, what's your opinion? What is your way during the time at university?

  2. First, marks are always important, none can refuse it. Why? Because the Vietnam education, politics and also economy system. Of course, it brings more chance for a candidate whose GPA is higher than another with others equal. Thus, the significance of marks is considerable. Thus, sometimes, to be honest, I reget that I did not try my best at university. I used to think that passing the exam winthin only some consilidation days was more admirable than others who worked very hard just had a bit high mark than me. In fact, it was my failure to manage time coz during the exams I was often exshauted. So, I recommend that we should study hard at university. However luck also counts in success. Moreover, there are many signicant things rather than marks: networks, experience,... In my case, it seemed that I did it well (just to me, no comparison plz). And to some extent, it helps me now in my current job and life. So, what students need to do is more than study. Many useful things and skills outside your books and teachers can't offer you. I myself feel happy and my life becomes more meaningful since I took part in social activities. You will see who you are and some potential that you never think of when being involved into such activities.

  3. well,it's an interesting topic^^.I found that nowadays, not many students care much about GPA. However, I myself think that to some extents, the marks can reveal our abilities, whether we work hard or not. Although It's true that luck also counts in success and many students get good marks not because of their real ability but can "copy" from the others:P.My GPA is not good coz I'm not be able to cope with some theory subjects like philosophy....And I "consoled" myself that I just have to learn my main subjects best ( four English skills...), the rests are not so important. On the other hands, today, the employers not only look at your GPA but also check the other skills 9 working in group, creativity, ect).

  4. @Sunny and Thanh: I have to agree with you. Coz i myself feel confused too. I want to get high GPA; yet, i want to join social activities to get "soft skills" and to be active. Thus, I try to spend less time but more focused to study. Especially, whenever i go to class, i try to learn and express myself. I cannot say no to voluntary activities that will help me a lot. I am sure that people will judge you not only by your GPA but also your experience. Try to be blanced. If you cannot, sacrifice something coz in life, nothing is perfect. You receive something valuable, you have to drop something on your way.

  5. One of my English teacher told that nowadays, more and more technology companies are not taking on those who have experience because IT field requires creativeness than experience. It is said that those who had many year experience are often conservative.
What do you think about this? So, is it neccesary to do part-time job while studying?

  6. in my opinion, qualification is very important to us to apply for a iob when we have graduated from university. So getting good marks is the biggest goal for us to strive. However, the activeness and creativeness are also necessary and participating social activities will help us be more dynamic and confident. In short, all of us should be studious students, enthusiatic in activities in order to have a light future. This sounds difficult but i believe that we can do!

  8. I think that good marks are valuable because they can show how well a student studied, the more importance is to show how serious that student sets up for his/her study.

I think that getting good marks on tests is very important for student studying at university or college.I understand that and during the period of time I am studying at Uni.,I always try my best to get a good result each team.Saying like that means that I am spending much time studying but I always get dissatisfied results.I am very worried about that because good results are the demands of employees.I think that it will be difficult for me to get a good job. What can we do to get a good graduate certificate????????....... wow!
