Dear Mr Viet,
I am one of your students from class 08.1.E16.I am writing to ask you for some advice. I really need your help now.
In my opinion, speaking is the most important English skill. I want to contact with other people all over the world by using English. And I really need it for my job. But now, it is difficult for me to speak English.
First, I can’t pronounce many consonants and vowels clearly. Second, I don’t know which words need to be put stress on in a whole sentence. Third, I completely lack confidence. One of my classmates said that my voice isn’t suitable with speaking English. Whenever I pronounce any word, I often think that I will make mistake. As a result, that comes true. In brief, I can’t speak English accurately and fluently now. Actually, I always want to become an advanced English learner. Could you give me some specific instructions on how to speak English better! That will make my lifetime dream into reality.
Look forward to hearing from you. Wish you happiness and heath!
Sincerely,
SunflowerJ
Dear thay Viet,
I would like to give some suggestions to Yen as i also a student learning English. Hope that you do not mind.
First of all, i agree with Yen that Speaking is a vital skill especially when you go abroad. Native speakers (those who do not communicate often with ESL) will find it difficult to understand our English. Therefore, this will cause avoidance/ uncertainty in communicating. So pronunciation and speaking skills are necessary. You will feel isolated if you cannot communicate well.
Secondly, to pronounce better, you should have a look at alphabets and see how it sounds. I recommend you using Pronunciation Power software (Thanks thay Tuan Minh a lot for this disk). You will be more confident and familiar through Pronunciation Piower 1 and 2. From that, they also teach you about stress and intonation with pratice.
Thirdly, i think 'practice makes perfect'. Don't be panic about your voice. I still remembered my high school teacher said to me that i spoke English like "cơm nguội trộn với nước:(". However, i kept trying and make use of chances to talk with native speakers. Right now, i am proud to say that "my English is not too bad:)". So the point here is that it is understandable that at first, you feel shy and hesitant to speak English owing to the fear of mistakes.
My advice is you keep practicing pronunciation, give yourself a try. There is no failure but challenges.
Joining English club or volunteering for organizations with international volunteers in camps is considered a good choice.
Last thing is that along with speaking, try to listen and read in English. Good habits of practicing English everyday will be your strategies to have advanced English later.
Good luck!

Next time please use English. It's also one of the ways to express your ideas.
Here are some tips to improve your speaking skills.
1. Brainstorm your ideas.
2. Simplify what you are trying to say.
3. Learn by heart some funny stories. It helps build your vocabulary and confidence.
4. Take part in discussion in this blog. There are Online Debate section. Take advantage of it.
Just take it easy. We will open a new thread to discuss ways to improve your language soon.
In my opinion, i think that using English as often as you can is a good way for you to improve your speaking. This blog is really a good one. I keep logging in everyday as my habits.
One thing i remember that to make my talk more natural, i usually take some stories or some ideas i want to share with people. That will make me confident and natural coz that is my story.
If you do not think of some exact words for what you want to say, try to explain them like thay Viet said or like going around the bush.
When you have speaking exam, please do not panic. Just think you have discussion with friends in English.
Good luck with your studying.
@Thay Viet: I look forward to seeing some new thread in this blog. I really enjoy it, seriously.
Dear teacher. Do you know the book " 180 de` tai` noi' va` viet' tieng' Anh" ? Could you please tell me the author of this book? Thank you so much.
I am a member of 08.E16. I am having conflicts in my life now. All make me bad influences in the end-term . I want some advice for you.
Hi Huong,
I think you have to define your conflicts. What are they? Then, you can start solving one by one.
Exams are coming. I know they are tough. But you have to trust yourself. No matter what happens, you always have to say: "I can do it".
Take care and good luck.
Cheers,
Viet.
